Lighten Up Sounds was established in 2007 as a small independent tape label, and still operates today as a platform for the publication and distribution of contemporary art and music. We work to support the vibrant cultural spectrum of obscure and remarkable sounds from throughout the underground, championing and spreading the sounds of challenging and non-commercial artists from across the world.

We specialize in limited editions and analog formats, having produced and published over 130 physical releases to date on formats including cassette, vinyl, lathe-cut record, VHS, CD, and 8 track cartridge. Over the years, Lighten Up Sounds has expanded to operate as a cultural hub and North American distribution center, actively working with hundreds of independent artists and small labels from the farthest reaches, and doing our small part to help spread crucial sounds from beneath the underground.
