Sequences is the long running project of Niels Geybels, and this brand new LP offers a grainy amalgamation of evolutionary electronics and shifting dream creep, a thick tonal eloquence focused on the environment one calls home.
Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
W. B. Yeats, Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven, 1899
Woven Empty is an interwoven soundscape crafted from analog and wholly acoustic sounds, both captured a field and carefully created through extended and experimental techniques in performance, recording and post processing. Instruments listed include electric guitar, piano, kalimba, flute, and harmonica, though most are largely unrecognizable in their final forms as juiced through heavy tape saturation and severe signal corruption. A hazy crackling romance, tense but warm, daunting and beautiful.
"Despite being inspired by the spirits of empty homes and the long-forgotten voices of their former inhabitants, ‘Woven Empty’ is not an album confined within any four walls. Its sonic worlds, being extracted from an array of realities themselves, are instead constantly blurring the listener’s perception of the mundane and the surreal. You might find the music taking you to a confined path amidst a foggy meadow at dawn to realize that you are sleepwalking. ‘Woven Empty’ turns insomniac visions into memories and reoccurring dreams into fears. It stares at you as much as you stare into it. This is the effect of an album created and inspired by emotional turmoil, developed through a time-consuming and almost obsessive sound-creating process and then left to quietly wait for you at the end of a 10-year-long hike in the obscure borderlands of drone, ambient and emotional noise music." -A.V.A.
